Our Community
The Town of LaSalle is a vibrant community with a diverse population experiencing significant growth and prosperity. It has the distinction of being the fifteenth fastest growing municipality in Canada. In 2005, the Town of LaSalle estimated a population of 27,746 residing in approximately 9,390 households.
Located in the northwest quadrant of Essex County, LaSalle has an area mass of approximately 65.6 square kilometers. LaSalle is nestled by the Town of Amherstburg to the south, the Town of Tecumseh to the east and the City of Windsor to the north; the Detroit River forms an international western boundary.
As a thoroughfare to the Provincial Highway 401 and a link to one of Canada’s major international border crossings, LaSalle police officers patrol one of the busiest highways in North America. LaSalle is within 8 kilometres of an international border and a major U.S. metropolis of five million. As a neighbouring community to the Fermi II Nuclear Plant, LaSalle Police Service is an active participant of its emergency planning network.
The LaSalle waterway stretches a distance of approximately 7.2 kilometres along an international water boarder. During high boating season, as many as 1,500 vessels are moored in the local marinas, in addition to heavy transient traffic from neighbouring municipalities and the United States.
